THE MFA OF ABKHAZIA GAVE AN ASSESSMENT OF THE COMMENTS OF SOME RUSSIAN MEDIA IN CONNECTION WITH THE DETENTION OF AKHRA AVIDZBA

Sukhum. March 10, 2021. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia made a commentary on the information distorted by the Russian media regarding the detention of citizen Akhra Avidzba by the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Abkhazia.

COMMENTARY OF THE RA MFA

We drew attention to the comments and assessments that appeared in various Russian mass media concerning the detention of citizen A.R. Avidzba by the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Voicing their personal opinions on this case, some Russian journalists and public figures deliberately distort the current situation, trying to shift the focus and making absurd statements about the alleged change in the foreign policy of the Abkhaz state in favor of Georgia and NATO.

We regard such statements as an obvious and planned provocation aimed at discrediting the image of the Republic of Abkhazia. Apparently, the authors of such "loud" statements expect to introduce some uncertainty in the Abkhaz-Russian interstate cooperation, which is of a strategic nature.

Journalists and public figures of this kind are trying to create a far-fetched informational occasion and thus draw additional attention to their informational and socio-political projects, which have established themselves as odious and impartial resources.

We would like to especially emphasize that the events developed around A.R. Avidzba are exclusively of an internal nature and have no foreign policy background.

The appeals of certain Russian journalists and public figures to the official authorities of the Russian Federation on the need to intervene in the situation are absolutely unfounded and inadmissible.

The position of the official authorities of the Russian Federation on this case was quite clearly reflected in the statement of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Abkhazia, which notes that the current situation is "an exclusively internal affair of the Republic of Abkhazia, which is within the competence of its law enforcement and judicial authorities."

We consider absolutely unacceptable any interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia. We regard such attempts as a politically motivated provocation aimed at creating an artificially negative background around the Abkhaz-Russian interstate strategic partnership.
