A considerable part of the press conference was devoted to the meeting of presidents of Russia and Abkhazia held in Sochi on November 12.

Bzhania spoke about the issues that were discussed at the meeting and its results.

“The atmosphere at the meeting was warm, friendly and constructive. The meeting was supposed to last no more than an hour, but it lasted almost 3 hours. We discussed almost all important issues of Russian-Abkhaz relations. I have sounded all the important problems that concern Abkhazia. President of the Russian Federation listened to me attentively and gave instructions to the responsible workers in front of me, ” Bzhania said.

When asked what specific problems were raised at the meeting in Sochi, President noted: “First of all, I voiced the issue of military security of Abkhazia. We discussed the state of the RA Armed Forces and their military-technical support. We expect that the steps to be taken will lead to improvement in our military potential and changes in the RA Ministry of Defense. The arguments that I gave were taken into account. The corresponding instructions were given to the RF Ministry of Defense, ” Bzhania said.

The meeting in Sochi also raised issues of the Russian-Abkhaz border and the access regime on it, overhaul and operation of Sukhum airport, providing the population of Abkhazia with electricity, gasification of Abkhazia, repayment of a railway loan, providing high-tech specialized medical assistance to the citizens of Abkhazia, assistance in combating the spread of coronavirus infection, the possibility of resuming the business lending program in Abkhazia by Russian banks. The meeting also touched upon the issue of rail transit through Abkhazia.
