In accordance with the approved Concept, the main principles of the foreign policy of the Republic of Abkhazia are:
priority of national interests;
active response to external challenges and threats;
multilevel external contacts;
openness to cooperation based on equality and mutual respect.
In accordance with the national interests of the Republic of Abkhazia, foreign policy efforts should be aimed at achieving the following goals:
- ensuring the national security of the Republic of Abkhazia, protecting its citizens, strengthening the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state;
- creation of favorable external conditions for the socio-economic development of the state, assistance in attracting foreign investments to the Republic of Abkhazia and promotion of the trade and economic interests of the Republic of Abkhazia abroad;
- protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia who are abroad;
- development and strengthening of strategic partnership with the Russian Federation;
- development and strengthening of mutually beneficial partnership with states that have established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Abkhazia;
- further international recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia;
- strengthening interaction with the Abkhaz diaspora in all regions of the world;
- formation and strengthening of a positive international image of the Republic of Abkhazia;
- settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict and normalization of relations with Georgia;
- assistance in strengthening peace and stability in the Caucasus region;
- intensification of efforts to enter the Republic of Abkhazia into global and regional international institutions.
