According to the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Mayor of Sukhum Beslan Eshba, Head of the UKS Timur Agrba, Chairman of the State Committee for Mass Communications and Digital Development Beslan Khalvash, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Ecology Murman Solomko; Deputy Director of the Housing and Utilities Department Ruslan Avidzba; Director of MUP Vodokanal Daur Pachkoria; Director of MUP DRSU Dmitry Akhuba; Director of MU Gorstroyproekt Astamur Pipia attended the meeting.
The day before the meeting, Christina Ozgan left together with head of the UKS Timur Agrba, head of the capital's Administration Beslan Eshba and public utilities to discuss the issue of reconstruction of the storm collector and the subsequent overhaul of roads in the center of Sukhum, carried out within the framework of the Investment Program to promote the socio-economic development of the Republic of Abkhazia. All works will be carried out by municipal services of the capital.
The main difficulty is related to the replacement of storm collectors located on both sides of Abazinskaya Street. The root system of trees has grown into these concrete-type storm collectors, installed back in Soviet times. Silt, roots and earth led to their almost 100% obstruction. Laying a new pipe on one side and overhauling the existing collector on the other will resolve the issue of flooding the streets after heavy rains, which causes a lot of inconvenience to the people of Sukhum.
It is up to the State Committee on Ecology to decide whether to preserve or replace the plantings, the roots of which have grown into storm sewers. Murman Solomko said that the life of urban plantings is shorter than that of trees growing in natural conditions and, perhaps, these plantings will need to be renewed.
Beslan Eshba assured that if ecologists decide not to save trees, then the administration is ready to take over the issue of compensatory planting of green spaces.
The timing of the project depends on several factors. The total amount of financing, including overhaul of roads, is 144 million rubles. The final cost of the project will be known after the design examination completion and estimate documentation, which is now being carried out in the Russian Federation.
It is planned that the contracts will be concluded in April. Work at each site will take approximately two months. The administration of Sukhum intends to complete its part of the work by the first days of July. This is a difficult task, but all forces will be involved in order to be in time before the onset of the active phase of the holiday season.
