Welcoming the guest, the head of state, in particular, said: “I am glad to welcome you, dear Anna Yurievna. Your visit is of great importance, since the protection of the rights and interests of our children is a priority task of the state. Despite the fact that there was no Ombudsman's office in Abkhazia until recently, the state paid special attention to protection of children's rights. Fortunately, there is no orphanage in Abkhazia. This is not because the state does not pay attention and cannot organize such a social institution. This is due to the mentality of our people. Even if by the will of fate, a child remains an orphan close relatives shelter him.
"Bzhania emphasized that the state pays special attention to supporting children with disabilities.
There is a Republican rehabilitation center in Sukhum, where more than 200 children with problems of nervous and musculoskeletal systems undergo rehabilitation courses. High-level specialists are involved to work with children. There is also a special school for children with special needs in the capital. The capital administration pays special attention to this educational institution.
The day before, President signed a decree appointing the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Abkhazia. "Maktina Otarievna, despite her youth, has extensive experience in working with children. The foundation she leads has saved many children's lives. I consider it symbolic that she begins her activities in her new post with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with you. It is very important for us. The Institute of the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child is a new state institution for us, and we count on your support and the support of your staff. Let me once again thank you for your visit and wish you success," President said.
In turn, Commissioner for the Children's Rights under President of the Russian Federation Anna Kuznetsova thanked President of Abkhazia for the meeting and noted that she considered the establishment of a special body for protection of children's rights in Abkhazia very important.
“Your concern for children's protection is expressed not in words, but in deeds, by the fact that after so many years it was you who established the position of the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child. This suggests that special attention will be paid to protection of the rights of the child. The republic is young, many issues and tasks still have to be solved, but the most important and valuable resource is people and children, ” Kuznetsova said.
She noted that her interaction with Abkhaz colleagues began even before the appearance of the Ombudsman Office for the Children's Rights. “My acquaintance with Abkhazia began with protection of a child, when my colleagues from Abkhazia and I met in order to help one of the children with treatment in Russia. Despite the fact that Abkhazia did not yet have the position of an authorized person, there were people who were ready to help children. I hope that all our other tasks will also be successfully resolved, ” said the Russian Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child.
The Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child of Abkhazia Maktina Dzhindzholia thanked President for the high trust and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation with her Russian counterpart.
“We will rely on your experience in this area and look forward to your support, because when you start such an important business, you need to be guided correctly,” said Dzhindzholia.
At the end of the meeting, there was signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between Presidential Commissioners for Children's Rights of Abkhazia and Russia.
