THE RA MFA CONSIDERS THE LAST STATEMENT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA AS INTERFERENCE IN THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS OF ABKHAZIA

Monday, 28 June 2021 06:13 387

Sukhum. June 26, 2021. Apsnypress. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made a statement that the Georgian government will develop a strategy for the socio-economic development of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. “We plan to develop a strategy for the socio-economic development of Abkhazia and the Tskhinval region. At the first stage, the concept of socio-economic rehabilitation of the Gal and Akhalgori regions will be developed. Regular cooperation with representatives of civil society will be ensured, including within the framework of a specially created advisory council of experts, ” he said.

“Garibashvili's statement is an attempt of gross interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state - the Republic of Abkhazia. The plan to develop a strategy for the development of Abkhazia, which goes beyond common sense, as well as the recent decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia to create a “de-occupation commission”, are completely out of touch with reality and will have no practical effect, ”t he Abkhaz Foreign Ministry says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia called the Georgia's initiative to create a strategy for the socio-economic development of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the so-called “commission for de-occupation" the imitation of activity.

All these actions of Georgia only indicate that Tbilisi categorically does not accept real ways of achieving mutual understanding between the two countries and does not want to conduct productive work within the framework of the generally recognised international format of the Geneva discussions.

“The revanchist approach of the Georgian side, expressed in the legislative recognition of Abkhazia as an “occupied territory”, fully determines the current political course of Georgia towards the Abkhaz state. By making loud statements about planned humanitarian projects and development strategies, Tbilisi is trying to throw dust in the eyes of the international community and mislead its citizens. The Republic of Abkhazia is ready to build relations only on an equal basis, and not as an autonomous region of Georgia, ” the Abkhazian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.

The Abkhaz side intends to sharply raise the issue of unacceptable initiatives put forward by Prime Minister of Georgia with regard to the Republic of Abkhazia at the upcoming round of Geneva discussions.
