The war began on August 14, 1992, it lasted 413 days and ended with the victory of Abkhazia.
The official reason for the transfer of Georgian troops was the statement of the State Council that Georgian Interior Minister Roman Gventsadze and twelve hostages taken by the Zviadists were in Abkhazia. The Tbilisi authorities also spoke about the need to "guard the railroad", which in fact resulted an armed aggression against Abkhazia. The Supreme Council of Abkhazia regarded the actions of the State Council of Georgia as "a prepared occupation of the territory of sovereign Abkhazia."
