“Having touched upon the contrived problem of admitting the EUMM to Abkhazia at a meeting with the Austrian federal president, the Georgian president apparently decided to remind the international community about the problem of the “occupied territories”.
The Georgian authorities and the leaders of the Mission are well aware that in accordance with agreements of Russian and French presidents of 2008, the EUMM's mandate includes only monitoring in the zone adjacent to Abkhazia, but not monitoring within the territory of the republic. We have no doubt that the representatives of Austria who take part in the work of the Mission are also aware of this, ” the RA Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.
The Georgian authorities openly disinformate, trying to “substantiate” the need to allow the EUMM to enter Abkhazia to “de-escalate the situation”, the RA Foreign Ministry believes.
“The absurdity of such a statement is obvious to any outside observer. Law and order are observed, all institutions of state power are functioning in the Republic of Abkhazia. It is also obvious that the republic does not feel the need for any "de-escalation", says the RA MFA Commentary.
The Tbilisi authorities, misleading their Western partners, should understand that by their actions and statements they only postpone the possibility of a civilized equal dialogue between the two countries, Abkhazia believes.
The RA Foreign Ministry called the position of Georgia's European friends towards Abkhazia unconstructive and extremely biased.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia expects that a realistic course based on pragmatism and a clear awareness of the existing political realities will prevail in approaches to the Republic of Abkhazia.
