The Abkhaz troops overcoming enemy resistance with heavy losses liberated Sukhum on the afternoon of September 27, 1993. This event marked the actual victory of the Abkhaz army in the war against the Georgian aggressors. Over the next three days, the Abkhaz army advanced to the Ingur River and erected the flag of Abkhazia on the state border with Georgia on September 30.
This morning flowers and wreaths are being laid at the Memorial to soldiers who died in the war. Veterans of the War of 1992-1993, mothers of dead soldiers, President, leaders of the country come here.
Festive events are not held on this day due to complication of the epidemiological situation.
At 19:00 representatives of the republic's non-governmental organizations will light candles on the graves of soldiers buried in the Park of Glory in Sukhum.
