The opening ceremony of the diplomatic representation of Abkhazia in the SAR was attended by members of the Abkhaz delegation who arrived in the Syrian capital on October 4.

Syria recognized the independence and state sovereignty of the RA on May 29, 2018.

On September 4, 2018, the Presidents of Abkhazia and Syria signed an interstate agreement on friendship and cooperation.
