Sukhum. November 4, 2020. Apsnypress. The United Nations Development Program continues to regularly deliver urgently needed supplies to help treat COVID-19 patients and protect Abkhaz medical personnel.

A 40 kW diesel generator was delivered to the laboratory of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service on October 30, 2020. UNDP provided a generator within the framework of the Horizons project, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is aimed at strengthening the capacity of medical institutions in Abkhazia in the field of preventing infectious diseases and their spread preventing. The generator will help to provide uninterrupted power supply for PCR testing in the SES laboratory.

UNDP also delivered two Mindray ventilators to treat patients with severe respiratory infections in specialized medical institutions of Abkhazia.

In the next shipment, scheduled for November 5, 2020, UNDP plans to deliver over 6,000 N95 respirator masks for use by medical staff to treat patients infected with COVID-19, as well as ten infrared thermometers. There is an acute shortage of N95 masks worldwide during the pandemic.

The cost of the last two deliveries is $ 48,550, the seventh and eighth in a row delivered by UNDP since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. All UNDP supplies to Abkhazia are carried out through the Joint Coordination Mechanism administered by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program.

As of November 4, 2020, 4426 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Abkhazia, of which 45 were fatal. Currently, 124 infected people are being treated at Gudauta hospital, and 65 patients are being treated at a mobile hospital recently deployed in Sukhum.
