The Joint Abkhaz-Syrian Committee for Economic, Trade, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation was established in accordance with agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Syrian Arab Republic "On the establishment of a joint committee for economic, trade, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation", signed on September 6, 2018.

The Syrian side was headed by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of the SAR Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, the Abkhaz side - by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Christina Ozgan.

There were signed two agreements upon completion of the work of the Joint Committee:

“Agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism between the Ministry of Tourism of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Abkhazia ".

"Agreement on cooperation between the Syrian and Abkhaz ports between the Ministry of Transport of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia ."

As a result of fruitful discussion during the work of the Joint Committee, the parties agreed on cooperation in the economic, trade, investment and banking spheres, as well as in the spheres of tourism, agriculture, transport, culture, higher education, research and local government.

The parties agreed to hold the second meeting of the Joint Abkhaz-Syrian Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation in Sukhum. The date of the second meeting will be jointly agreed through diplomatic channels.

The Syrian side invited the Abkhaz side to take part in the next International Damascus Exhibition. In turn, the Abkhaz side invited the Syrian side to take part in the Abkhaz-Russian business forum, which will be held in Sukhum in 2021.
