The Abkhaz delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Irakli Tuzhba, included MPs Givi Kvarchia and Astamur Logua, Deputy Chairman of the State Security Service Zaal Khvartskiya, Foreign Ministry officials Lasha Avidzba, Artur Gagulia and Anna Gamisonia.

The work of the next 54th round of the Geneva Discussions was traditionally conducted in two groups: on security and humanitarian issues.

The head of the Abkhaz delegation once again emphasized his position on the need to conclude a legally binding document on the non-use of force between Georgia, on the one hand, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia, on the other, during the work of the first group. Unfortunately, the Georgian delegation again refused to conduct a dialogue on this key issue of the agenda.

The Abkhazian delegation drew the attention of the co-chairs to the ongoing build-up of the military potential of Georgia, stressing that these actions could inevitably lead to an escalation of tension in the region.

The participants described the situation on the borders of Abkhazia and South Ossetia with Georgia as stable. International mediators gave a positive assessment to the opening of checkpoints on the Abkhaz-Georgian state border.

The participants once again stressed the need to take joint steps to resume the operation of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gal, which was terminated as a result of provocative actions by the Georgian side.

Following the talks, the co-chairs proposed to prepare a joint document on the basis of which the further work of the International Geneva Discussions will be conducted.

The discussion of humanitarian issues related to freedom of movement, education, overcoming the consequences of the spread of coronavirus infection and a number of other topical issues on the agenda continued as part of the second working group.

The next round of the International Geneva Discussions is scheduled for December 7-8, 2021.
