Lyudmila Skorik urged citizens to take a responsible approach to recommended precautions in order to avoid a further increase of the infected number.
She emphasized that relatives of those who died from coronavirus infection should not organize pageant funerals.
“Relatives do not understand the importance and necessity of restrictive measures. If we give out the body of a deceased from a coronavirus infection, it is not necessary to organise pageant funerals and multi-day commemoration. Relatives who have been in contact with the deceased may themselves be carriers of the infection. We must stop now. It is that way the outbreaks began in Dagestan, in Karachay-Cherkessia. If every resident does not comply with the necessary requirements, the situation will worsen, ” said the chief sanitary doctor.
She once again reminded of precautions often neglected by people: not to go to public events, wear masks in crowded places, keep a distance and disinfect hands, if necessary, stay in quarantine for 14 days.
“We want to stop outbreaks. Currently, the epidemic situation in the republic is very serious. Since the beginning of penetration of COVID-19 into Abkhazia, 516 cases have been identified. We are trying our best to drown out the outbreaks that occur in different places. They appear because we continue to violate the necessary measures. If a person has been in contact with a sick person, it is necessary to stay at home, ” she stressed.
Lyudmila Skorik reported on the number of cases in Abkhazia: “In Sukhum - 379 people, in Gagra - 41, in Gudauta - 59, in Ochamchira - 24, in Gulrypsh - 10, in Tkuarchal - 3.
“There have been no previously recorded cases in Tkuarchal. One case was imported, people did not self-isolate, and the infection began to spread. It depends on each of us how we will stop this disease, ” Skorik said.
Speaking about testing for coronavirus infection, the chief sanitary doctor noted that PCR diagnostics is carried out based on symptoms. “PCR diagnostics serves to identify patients, and not to confirm that a person is healthy at a given time. Our laboratory is operating at full capacity and tests are conducted almost around the clock. We have enough test systems, but it is impossible to test everyone. The laboratory's capabilities are limited by the operation of our equipment. I ask you to comply with all the requirements that will really stop this disease in the republic and will not allow the only laboratory in the entire republic to be knocked out of the working schedule, ” Lyudmila Skorik emphasized.
